Roadtrip 2015 Fall: Vancouver - Astoria - Bandon - Anderson - Paso Robles - Palm Desert - Morongo Valley - Sedona - Henderson - Lone Pine - Sacramento - Ashland - Newport - Astoria - Vancouver

Day 10 - Joshua Tree

Storms are brewing over the desert. A good day for hunting UFOs.

Just our luck - we're behind a tour bus at the entrance to Joshua Tree National Monument.

Darth exits from his stealthy rock hut.

Huddled.

There are those who believe that life down here began out there... far across the universe...

If it was Oregon, tis would be Seal Rocks.

This is Smiley, the Happy Whale.

Don't know about you Dino, but I'm gettin' pretty tired holding this thing up - tell her to hurry up and get the shot!

Turns out the Giant Swiss Cheese is just another rock.

Joshua Tree vs the world.

Remnants of the ancient aliens' anti-seal hunt campaign. Everybody likes to kick Canadians.

The pot o' gold beckons... just one step behind that giant thunderhead.

We've been surrounded by storms all day today.

That would be the Salton Sea just beyond the ridge - a magnet for convergence of everything supernatural and extra terrestrial.

I've seen Close Encounters enough times to know to stay away from vortex thingies.

A triple storm sweep. The aliens like the number three.

I've seen this happen in the valley more than once: There's this loud humming sound, then a bright light in the sky, then a shaft from a transporter beam hits an unsuspecting ranch, and bam!! The ranch is gone - people, buildings, cows and all. Minutes later, choppers from the Marine Engineer's base at 29 Palms appear with a perfect replica ranch and they plop it right back. Seconds later, truckloads of new cows appear, and a new ranch family arrives in their brand-new F150 pickup truck. Nobody is the wiser. 'ceptin' me.

NASA's new top-secret project, code-named "Save Our Stars". It's cunningly made of plywood to disguise its repurposed alien technology, and those thingies that look like heating ducts are actually Tri-Dimensional Stellar Manifolds. Emma is wondering where the heck that humming noise is coming from.
